The Super Zoom vs Low Light.

Powershot SD4500 IS / IXUS 1000 HST

Staying under the $200 mark, The world’s slimmest super zoom camera, a wide andle 28mm equivalent lens, Something that is rarely seen in a camera this cheap, 10x zoom range starting at a rather over-long 36mm equivalent.   The image-stabilized camera can record full 1080p movies as well as Super Slow Motion movies at 240fps . 14MP CMOS sensor similar to that used in Canon’s high-end compact cameras

The HS System promises better low-light performance and high-speed photography. 8.5 frames-per-second burst rate (@2.5mp). 2.7-inch LCD screen,   HDMI output, and “Smart AUTO”.  Represents ten years since the IXUS range first went digital. Good quality photos for the price,

The PowerShot SX200 IS

Canon’s first attempt at a pocket super-zoom, and it’’s impressive how quickly Canon has got up to speed on its first generation pocket super-zoom. Shoots 12 mp images without JPEG compression i.e., in RAW. Packing a 28 mm wide-angle,  allows any scene from wide-angle to telephoto. The SX200’s lens is the “big story” here. A 12x optical zoom (35 mm film equivalent 28-560 mm) minimizes camera shake and 720p HD movies, HDMI ports, 3in screens and scene detection, and full manual control into a pocketable form factor. the SX200’s pivoting pop-up flash is a nice visual and functional touch, but it deploys when the camera is powered on and can’t be locked back until the lens retracts on shutdown. Viewed in isolation it’s a highly compelling prospect. ( but the Lumix TZ7 / ZS3 boasts a wider lens,  faster continuous shooting and the ability to zoom while filming, which sx doesn’t hmm)

Canon S90

Under $400, it has a metal body, 29.5 mm thick*1. The S95’s high-sensitivity sensor offers a greater dynamic range compared to conventional sensor types. 720p HD video (with stereo sound!), a genuine Canon bright and wide 28-105mm, F2.0-4.9 Image stabilized lens, allows more light in for faster shutter speeds and freeze the motion of moving subjects  and 3.0″ LCD and HDMI output. ISO speed of 3200 at full resolution. . 3.8x optical zoom, Shoots in RAW mode, The  point-and-shoot control ring makes it a breeze to adjust focus, exposure, ISO, white balance, and pretty much all the manual controls. AUTO ISO. Easy, wireless transfers by Eye-Fi.

Hybrid IS‘ system compensates for more types of movement and more powerful for low light and creative photography. Also provides improved image stabilization for macro photography. a combination of a high-sensitivity 10.0 Megapixel CCD sensor and powerful DIGIC 4 processing, provides exceptional low light performance & reduces noise for high quality images. In Low Light mode, the camera can also achieve an extended ISO range from ISO 320 to ISO 12800(@ 2.5MP). Manual control in Low Light mode also provide greater control over shots taken in darker conditions, allowing users to accurately capture the ambience of a dimly-lit environment exactly as they see it. Low Light mode also enables higher speed shooting, capturing up to 3.9 shots per second providing the ability to shoot without the flash and still achieve correctly-exposed shots.  Tonal range representation is improved allowing natural looking pictures to be captured in all conditions.

HDR mode takes three consecutive shots at different exposures and merges them together for you, in-camera, to making high contrast scenes closer to how they appear to the human eye. Exceeding the limitations of conventional cameras image . The result is an image that captures highlight and shadow detail closer to how the photographer sees it.
